He informed me that my book was crap, that it didn't look as good as books selling for twice the price (right, that's why it's half the price), and that the information in the book was simple basic information that anyone would know. He ended by asking me whether Joe Pilates made a "mind-corrector" because I obviously needed one.
I very calmly refunded him his $7 and sent an email saying that I was very sorry that he felt that way, that I was refunding his money, that I hoped he would still try the highly effective Pilates exercises (assuming he bought the book because he is in pain), and that I didn't feel personal attacks were at all necessary.
That should have ended the conversation, but no, the angry man had to reply. He told me that his attack was necessary because people like me should be stopped from doing business on line, that I obviously was an idiot who didn't even understand "e-book culture", and that people needed to be protected from scammers like me who are trying to rip them off because they are in pain.
Now, this interchange has obviously upset me because I am still thinking about it and writing about it.
My response:
Most people unfortunately do not know the basic anatomy of the spine and torso. University professors might, but not the general population.
The most simple exercises are the most effective at improving posture and eliminating back pain. Nothing complicated or extreme is necessary.
All I offer in the book is 6 simple exercises and they are highly effective, whether the presentation is fabulous or not.
What scares me about the vitriol contained in the two emails I received is that the guy doesn't know me, obviously did not even try the exercises, and still felt the need to attack my work without even experiencing the effects! A**hole!
